Through meticulous selection, cutting, and blending of colors, they transform waste into wearable works of art. The result? A stunning array of one-of-a-kind handcrafted pieces, crafted from top-quality leather and infused with eco-friendly charm.
Introducing the Brand Soruka: Crafting Timeless Treasures
Meet the brand Soruka! A brand close to my heart and now an eye-catching new addition to our boutique. At Soruka, artisans have perfected the craft of transforming discarded materials into exquisite bags by selecting the perfect hues and skillfully combining them. Soruka’s mission goes beyond fashion: it is to create beautiful timeless leather goods while preserving traditional techniques, supporting sustainable fashion and the fair trade movement.
Embracing Sustainability: A Leather Revolution
Did you know that over 500,000 tons of leather go to waste annually? The traditional leather industry often discards 60% of the hide, leading to environmental havoc in landfills and water bodies. Soruka is rewriting this narrative. Their artisans meticulously utilize every scrap of leather, striving to achieve zero waste. Each handcrafted piece is born from unused leather, ensuring not just quality but also a commitment to our planet's well-being.
Crafted With Care: Sustainable Leather Goods
Each piece of this collection is made with integrity and kindness by artisans using traditional techniques, showcasing their expertise and craftsmanship. These bags are designed in a timeless style that will outlive trends and seasons, every bag is a unique and an unrepeatable piece of art. The manufacturing process involves little to no machinery, keeping the energy consumption low.
Supporting Real Artisans with Real Wages
All of Soruka’s bags are made in India by small, independent artisans from rural communities, with whom they work closely to help grow their business and production capabilities. The partnership with them is the best method of job creation in low income environments and also a way to preserve generational craftsmanship. All of Soruka’s artisans are trained adults over 18, who receive beyond fair trade wages. This economic empowerment gives them the opportunity to stay in their villages, supporting their family, and they will be less likely to migrate to urban areas.
One-of-a-kind Recycled Leather Handbags, Wallets, Totes and Purses
Our bags are made with recycled leather that has been wasted by factories (scrap and left over leather) and dead stock materials. Sustainability means to respect the material using every single part you can so nothing goes to the waste. Dead stock materials are left over leather that is no longer useful to companies and is sold off due to various reasons including overstock, not meeting aesthetic requirements, too small in quantity to make a collection or no longer in season.
Because these pieces are made from dead stock materials, scrap and left over leather, it is impossible to make two identical bags, which makes each bag unique and unrepeatable! Each color combination will always be different which means that each bag in our store in the Soruka collection is truly a one-of-a-kind masterpiece!
