Last year, something extraordinary happened right here on the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard in Oak Bluffs. Let us take you on a journey to the first-ever Pride Parade on this magical island...
A Colorful Celebration of Love and Acceptance:
Picture this: June 11, 2022, the sun was shining, and the air was buzzing with excitement. Our team, including my daughter and me, joined hundreds of enthusiastic members from our local community to be part of this historic Pride Parade. It was a day bursting with color, joy, and a whole lot of love. We couldn't help but smile from ear to ear, and honestly I was tearing up for half of the time as I could barely contain the joy inside of me.
Spreading the Pride Vibe:
As we marched from the Oak Bluffs harbor, up Circuit Avenue and through the streets of Oak Bluffs, we couldn't resist spreading the love. We handed out our rainbow island stickers to everyone we met, symbolizing our belief in inclusivity and celebrating the beautiful diversity within our community. The response? Pure magic! People of all ages and backgrounds embraced the celebration, and the smiles on their faces were contagious.
Flying the Flag, Making a Statement:
Our commitment to creating a safe and welcoming space for all runs deep. We proudly raised the Pride Progress Flag in front of our store, making a daily statement of support for the LGBTQ+ community. It's not just about the parade; it's about embracing love and acceptance every single day. We continue to fly this flag outside of our shop on a daily basis- all year round.
Anticipating a Spectacular Encore:
Fast forward to this year, June 10, 2023. We're counting down the days with excitement bubbling among my team members, friends and family. The anticipation for this year's Pride Parade is off the charts! The Oak Bluffs Association is planning even more exciting events and we're expecting an even bigger celebration, with more love, more unity, and more fabulous self-expression.
