DESIGNING A CUSTOM CLASP
I wanted to share the story behind creating the charm holder clasp that defines my latest jewelry collection. It all started with a vision for a clasp that could be more than just a secure closure—one that would serve as the heart of the collection itself.
A Clasp with a purpose
This isn’t just any clasp. I wanted to design a clasp that could be the focal point of the piece, not just an afterthought. That’s when I thought, What if the clasp itself could also be a charm holder? A functional piece in gold or silver that lets you effortlessly add, remove, and swap charms, completely transforming your look.
FROM VISION TO REALITY
Versatility is always my goal—jewelry that can be more than just one thing, adapting to your style needs. To achieve this, I teamed up with a talented silversmith, focusing on creating a design that was both sleek and secure. We began with sketches, evolving the concept through multiple design samples and iterations. To make the clasp especially user-friendly, we designed it with an extra-large lever for smooth opening and closing, making it easy to change charms anytime you like.
We were also mindful of the aesthetics. Part A, the clasp, needed to be both strong and graceful, with a clean, balanced design. Part B, the smaller “receiving” end, had to mirror the base of the clasp to maintain symmetry and keep the charm holder front and center.
THE DETAILS MAKE IT SPECIAL
Getting these two components to connect seamlessly took multiple iterations. Each version brought us closer to the ideal balance of elegance and utility. I wanted the clasp to work just as well on a paperclip chain as on a strand of pearls or beads. It was also important to me that the clasp looked captivating both with and without charms—or even with a single large focal charm or pendant.
After several rounds of adjustments, we arrived at a design that felt just right—functional yet beautiful. I even added our logo to the final iteration of the clasp, making it a true signature piece in the collection– one that can be used in future designs as well.
A SIGNATURE PIECE
The clasp doesn’t just close the necklace; it frames your charms, making them the star while keeping everything secure. This process reminded me how even the simplest things—like a clasp—can be transformed into something unique with creativity and attention to detail. I’m thrilled to share this piece with you. It’s truly a labor of love, and I hope you feel that when you wear it.
